Phoenix Children’s 2013 Leapfrog quality and safety performance: Among the best in the nation

Leapfrog Group Top Children's Hospital 2012

The 2013 Leapfrog Survey results are in, and for the second year in a row, Phoenix Children’s Hospital has been named a Top Children’s Hospital. Only 12 other children's hospitals in the nation met the Leapfrog Group’s high standards and this elite recognition demonstrates the Hospital’s firm commitment to quality and patient safety.

Phoenix Children’s received the highest possible ratings for:

  • preventing medication errors
  • appropriate ICU staffing
  • steps to avoid harm
  • and managing serious errors

These results demonstrate that Phoenix Children’s Hospital is committed to providing the safest care possible. Processes and systems are designed with patient safety in mind, and a culture has been established that clearly prioritizes patient safety.

A hospital that consistently provides safe, high-quality care

“We’re proud to be awarded this prestigious honor, and count it as a privilege to be able to offer Arizona children consistent, excellent high quality care and patient safety,” said Bob Meyer, President and CEO of Phoenix Children’s Hospital.

Phoenix Children’s was selected based on the annual Leapfrog Group hospital survey that measures hospital performance on how patients fare, resource use and management structures in place to prevent errors.  This year's survey had a record 1,324 participating hospitals.

“The field of hospitals’ considered for this year’s elite Leapfrog Top Hospital distinction was more competitive than ever. By achieving the Top Hospital accolade, Phoenix Children’s Hospital has demonstrated exemplary performance across all areas of quality and patient safety that are analyzed on the Leapfrog Hospital Survey. If my family or friends needed care, I’d be comfortable sending them to Phoenix Children’s Hospital,” said Leah Binder, President & CEO of The Leapfrog Group.
