Phoenix Children's Hospital celebrates 25 years
From the day Phoenix Children's Hospital opened, we have been dedicated to providing hope, healing and the best healthcare for our young patients.
This month, as Phoenix Children's Hospital celebrates its 25th birthday, we are among the largest children's hospitals in the country and a strong advocate for children's health issues throughout the Southwest.
Over the years, we've made a big difference in the lives of many children and families, and it's these special kids who make us so passionate about the future.
The history of Phoenix Children's Hospital is deep and full of incredible stories about our patients and families, clinicians, volunteers, employees, and the community.
To celebrate our 25 years, we want to pay tribute to the individual moments that make up our history – and give you the chance to share your story with us.
Handprints of Hope – Our documentary film
In the fall of 2007, Phoenix Children's Hospital commissioned Oscar® winning documentary filmmaker Cynthia Wade, to tell the story of four young patients whose stories of hope and success embody the spirit of Phoenix Children's.
Wade, a highly-acclaimed filmmaker, embraced this opportunity to capture the spirit of these patients and families, and their medical teams. She brought her talent for storytelling here – to the sickest children who were given the best chance to recover and reach their full potential.
The documentary film Handprints of Hope can be seen at our feature website, www.PCHhandprints.org.
25th Anniversary website – A rich history of our stories, and yours
To honor the stories that have brought us here, and move us forward, Phoenix Children's Hospital has created an interactive timeline to showcase photos, facts, and personal stories that bring to life significant moments from the Hospital's 25-year history.
Patients and their families, physicians, donors, volunteers, employees, and community members are invited to post their own stories and photos to share their special moment in our 25 years (all stories are reviewed before they go live).
The result will be a living, breathing history of Phoenix Children's and a tribute to the thousands of lives that have been touched by the Hospital.
Experience the timeline at www.celebratepch.com, and if you have a story to tell, please share it with us on the website.
Looking to the future
Phoenix Children's Hospital also announced its plans for a multi-year expansion of its main campus this year. The vision for the new Hospital is to enhance clinical programs and increase overall capacity in our unique, kid-friendly environment of family-centered care.
Hospital President and CEO Bob Meyer introduced a video that shows the Hospital rising to tower over the current campus at "The Most Important Day" event which unveiled the Hospital's future.
Meyer noted, "The past 25 years tell more than a story of past achievements. It's a promise to the children and families of our community that the very best care available anywhere, is available in their own backyard. And it's a pledge that each and every child who needs it, will get that care."
