Cochlear Implant Program

Hearing loss can be congenital (present at birth) or progressive (get worse over time).  

The cochlear implant team at Phoenix Children’s evaluates and treats children and teens with a wide range of conditions that affect hearing loss, including:

  • Cochlear malformations 
  • Meningitis, a condition in which the brain and spinal cord membranes become inflamed (usually because of an infection)
  • Congenital cytomegalovirus (CMV), an infection that can cause health problems that are apparent at birth or develop later during infancy or childhood
  • Genetic conditions and syndromes
  • Head trauma or skull fracture
  • Noise exposure
  • Exposure to medications that damage the inner ear
