Phoenix - June 10, 2013 - Connie Mariano, MD has joined the Board of Phoenix Children’s Hospital.
Dr. Mariano was White House Physician to former presidents George H.W. Bush, Bill Clinton and George W. Bush. After leaving the White House and retiring as Rear Admiral in 2001, Dr. Mariano joined the staff at Mayo Clinic Scottsdale. In 2005 she founded the Center for Executive Medicine, a medical concierge practice which provides executive care to CEOs and their families.
Marino was born in Sangley Point, Philippines into a career Navy family. Her family moved to Hawaii when she was two years old and moved frequently during her father’s Navy career. In 1973, Marino graduated as Valedictorian of her senior class from Mar Vista High School in Imperial Beach, CA. After receiving her Bachelor’s Degree with honors from the University of California at San Diego, she received her Medical Degree from the Uniformed Services University School of Medicine in Bethesda, Maryland, the nation’s military medical school. She was commissioned as a lieutenant in the U. S. Navy upon graduation.
Mariano completed her internship and residency in Internal Medicine at the Naval Hospital in San Diego, and served as General Medical Officer and Division Head onboard the U.S.S Prairie, a destroyer tender completing a Western Pacific deployment.
Upon receiving board-certification in Internal Medicine she was assigned to the Naval Medical Clinic in Port Hueneme, CA. where she ran the Specialty Clinic and Urgent care facility.
Mariano became the first military woman in American history to be appointed White House physician in 1990 and served President Clinton as his personal physician during his entire term Over nine years at the White House she was physician to three sitting American Presidents.
Completing 24 years of active duty service, Dr. Mariano retired from the Navy in June, 2001 with the rank of Rear Admiral and became the first Filipino American history to become a Navy Admiral in July of 2000.
An expert in presidential health care including the 25th amendment to the Constitution, Dr. Mariano is a frequent guest speaker on national and print media. She is the author of the book, entitled The White House Doctor: my Patients were Presidents, A Memoir.
Dr. Mariano serves on the Medical Advisory Board of EmpowHER, a company dedicated to information and support for women about health and wellness. Dr. Mariano is the Medical Director for FutureDocs, which encourages high school students to pursue careers in medicine and healthcare. She is married to John H. Weber, former CEO of Remy International. They have four children.
