Phoenix - June 28, 2013 – Phoenix Children’s Hospital is proud to announce that the Sleep Medicine Program has earned accreditation from the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM). Phoenix Children’s Hospital now has the only exclusively pediatric AASM accredited sleep laboratory in the Southwest.
To receive a five-year accreditation, a sleep center must meet or exceed all standards for professional health care as designated by the AASM. The accreditation process involves detailed inspection of a center’s facility and staff, including an evaluation of testing procedures, patient contacts, and physician/sleep technologist training. Additionally, the facility’s goals must be clearly stated and include plans for positively affecting the quality of medical care in the community it serves.
The AASM is a professional medical society for clinicians, researchers and other health care providers in the field of sleep medicine, dedicated to setting standards and promoting excellence in sleep medicine health care, education, and research.
The comprehensive Sleep Medicine Program at Phoenix Children’s Hospital, now one of only seven exclusively pediatric accredited sleep centers in the entire western United States, is led Rupali Drewek, MD and Matthew Troester, DO. Dr. Drewek is the only pediatric pulmonologist in Arizona triple board-certified in Pediatrics, Pediatric Pulmonology and Sleep Medicine. Dr. Troester is the only pediatric neurologist in Arizona fellowship trained and triple board-certified in Neurology with Special Qualification in Child Neurology, Clinical Neurophysiology and Sleep Medicine. This program is dedicated to treating a variety of problems that compromise healthy sleeping habits and keep children and their parents from having a comfortable night’s rest.
The doctors and their multidisciplinary team at Phoenix Children’s Hospital are committed to providing the best physical and emotional support to children and parents of children with sleep problems. This accomplishment is the culmination of a great deal of hard work and most importantly allows for the continued efforts in providing better sleep medicine care to patients.
