What led you to your career as a psychologist?
I started studying psychology in college because it was so fun and interesting. Then, I worked for a pediatric psychologist in a hospital and decided I wanted to do that; it was amazing work and made a difference in children's lives.

What is the best thing about your job?
Meeting and getting to know all of these wonderful families, helping children to be better understood and served by their medical teams, and getting to play every day!

Have you received a special gift of thanks or piece of artwork from a child?
Yes. I have some very special drawings and have eaten some good gifts, too (cookies).

What is your favorite children’s book?
The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle

How do you go about calming a child’s fears? Aside from the wonderful work of the Child Life team?
This is a big part of my job description. I listen and acknowledge those very real fears, and then teach the child strategies to manage them, like breathing slowly, imagining a really calming place to visit, and arguing back with the worries.

How do you build trust with a parent?
Listen, allow them to see how I work with their child, and provide information and reassurance.

What do you enjoy doing in your free time?
I would probably enjoy reading if I had free time.

What is your favorite local restaurant?
The Tuck Shop (their chicken and waffles are out of this world)

Can you tell us about your family?
Come to see me, and I'll talk your ear off.

Where are you originally from, and how did you get here?
I am originally from Washington State. I arrived in Phoenix by way of a job offer and an airplane.
Research/Special Interests: Adolescents; Ethnic Minority Populations; Stress and Coping
