Pediatric ADHD Diagnostic and Medication Management Clinic
Supporting the family, ensuring comprehensive care of the child, and supporting the Primary Care Physician.
The pediatric Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) Program at Barrow Neurological Institute at Phoenix Children's Hospital consists of two clinics: the ADHD Diagnostic Clinic and the ADHD Medication Management Clinic. These clinics support the family, ensures comprehensive care of the child and supports the Primary Care Physician.
The ADHD Diagnostic Clinic is a collaborative program between General Pediatrics and Developmental Pediatrics. It is a resident teaching clinic, designed to provide evidence-based evaluation and treatment of children who may have ADHD, while at the same time, teach our pediatric residents, our future pediatricians, about this disorder and how to diagnose and manage patients with ADHD with standardized tools, comprehensive care, research-backed treatment, and community resources.
Children and their parents are seen for up to three visits to provide a comprehensive assessment, establish diagnosis, and provide initial treatment of ADHD and its co-morbidities. We strive to evaluate the whole child and assess for co-existing conditions such as: mood disorders, learning disorders, anxiety disorders, speech and language, and disruptive behavior disorders.
Medication Management Clinic
The ADHD Medication Management Clinic is available, should the Primary Care Physician require additional assistance in managing the patients ADHD medication. Some children require changes or adjustments to ADHD medication and may not benefit from the first medication tried. Other children may also have comorbidities that require additional attention. As noted above, some patients may need care from our colleagues in other specialties. As such, we strive to provide comprehensive, multi-disciplinary, coordinated care. Our goal is to support the family, ensure comprehensive care of the child, and support the Primary Care Physician in providing a medical home.
