Residents work with Dr. Ellis seeing patients for new-born follow –up visit and also to address developmental concerns. Residents use evaluation tools including the Alberta Infant Motor Scale and the Capute Scale, and also develop an understanding of developmental trajectory for preterm infants and how it differs from term healthy newborns. During the site visit residents should also be able to recognize the importance of proper nutrition on growth and development and the importance of good sleep on family functioning.
Increase medical knowledge in the areas of: biological mechanisms of behavioral and development, language and learning disorders, motor disabilities, feeding/eating difficulties, new-born follow-up, neurodevelopmental assessment, early intervention and education, consultation and referrals and integration of evaluations from other disciplines.
Strengthen patient care, interpersonal and communication skills and professionalismby actively participating in supervised direct patient care
Improve practice-based learning techniques by participating in educating patients and families.
