Each year, 500 babies throughout Arizona and the Southwest are admitted to our newborn intensive care nursery. Their healing starts here.

Our NICU has a staff of more than 100 healthcare professionals, all specialized in the unique care of critically ill and premature infants. We offer many life-saving services, including operating as a regional referral center for ECMO, a heart-lung bypass procedure that uses special equipment to facilitate the work of an infant's heart and/or lungs while they rest, recover and develop.

NICU patients have easy access to consultation services and resources from Phoenix Children's large staff of pediatric specialists and sub-specialists. Our NICU also offers 33 beds on our main campus, supporting infants born throughout Arizona needing a higher level of neonatal surgery.
