Residency Programs
Today’s pharmacists play a critical role in healthcare, public health and patient safety – far beyond dispensing medications. They provide vital clinical information and recommendations for patients and prescribers. They manage medication therapy monitoring plans to prevent interactions, medication errors and adverse effects. They also critically evaluate patient profiles and collaborate with an interdisciplinary team to optimize medication therapies and provide high-quality patient care.
Phoenix Children’s is committed to recruiting, training, and professional development of outstanding diverse residents, clinical pharmacists, and leaders in pediatric pharmacy practice to ensure culturally competent care for our patient population. Our pharmacy residency programs provide a wide variety of experiences and the chance to work closely with an outstanding team of hospital pharmacists, decentralized pharmacists, certified pharmacy technicians, student pharmacists and a wide range of clinical specialists.
“Our department includes a retail pharmacy, specialty pharmacy, infusion center satellite pharmacy, and inpatient pharmacy. The inpatient pharmacy provides 24/7 coverage for Phoenix Children’s Main and East Valley campuses, which includes various ambulatory care clinics.”
General Program Information
- Positions available:
- PGY1 - 3 positions (starts last Monday of June)
- PGY2 - 1 position (starts first Monday of July)
Requirements for Acceptance
- Completion of an Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE)-accredited PharmD program
- PGY2 applicants: Completion of an American Society of Health System Pharmacists (ASHP)-accredited PGY1 residency
- Eligibility for licensure in Arizona
- Official college transcripts
- Current curriculum vitae (CV)
- Detailed letter of intent
- Three professional letters of reference
- Registration and participation in the ASHP Resident Matching Program and PhORCAS™
