Volunteer Program Assignments

Volunteers are trained in one assigned area or set of tasks and perform that role independently or with a partner, weekly.

1 Darn Cool School:  Assists in school room and bedside teaching. Current teaching cert. required.

Animal Assisted Therapy (AAT) Escort:  Assists animal assisted therapy teams during therapeutic visits with patients and families. The AAT Coordinator looks for volunteers who are familiar with children and dogs.

Child Life Zone:   Assists with games, arts and crafts in a supervised playroom for patients and siblings 6 years and older. Minimum age requirement: 18 years old. CPR Certification required.

Crews N Healthmobile:  Positions within several clinics act as a liaison between staff and families, provide a positive reading experience in waiting area of clinic and provide support to nurses as applicable.

Emergency Department (ED):  Meets and greets children and their families; assist ED staff in attending to non-medical questions and concerns of patients/families. Serve as a liaison between staff, children, families and visitors. Bilingual and CPR certification preferred.

Emily Center:  Assists patrons in locating books, videos, and websites regarding medical concerns in this family health library. Interact with young patrons by playing computer games, watching videos or reading stories. Light clerical support.

Emily Center Book Cart:  Assists in distribution of books to patients and family members through a “traveling book cart.”

Family Care Cart/Center: To assist families in a “home away from home” setting, maintaining Family Center, providing comfort items (taken to the bedside) and assisting with hospital resources.

Gift Shop: Assists with sales, stocking and customer service for patients, families and staff.

Got Questions:  Serves as a point of contact for all hospital guests and families.  Volunteers will be stationed throughout the hospital and will offer assistance and help in way finding.

Hospitality Coffee Cart:  Provides coffee and refreshments to families, visitors and staff.

Mascot: Dresses in costume at hospital and community events as requested.  Height Requirement: Between 5’0” & 5’5”.

Patient Transport: Assist in transporting children and families to different areas of the hospital. CPR Certification Required.

Radiology Waiting: Acts as a liaison between staff and families. Interacts with technicians, nurses and staff to coordinate family convenience and comfort while children wait to be taken for an exam.
