Cardiac Neurodevelopmental Program
Many children with heart disease are at higher risk for long-term developmental, behavioral and psychological problems.
As survival rates in children with cardiac disease continue to improve, it’s evident that this group of patients is at higher risk for neurodevelopmental problems. The goal of this program is to provide a broad neurodevelopmental evaluation and help our patients reach their fullest potential.
Phoenix Children’s Heart Center provides the best care in the region for children with heart disease. In an effort to continue to deliver excellent care for our patients beyond their surgical and acute medical needs, this program offers comprehensive, multidisciplinary neurodevelopmental care well after the immediate post-operative period. Because children‘s cognitive functions are developing throughout childhood and adolescence, repeat neuropsychological assessments are essential. These regular evaluations provide important information about the status of developing cognitive functions and help your child’s doctor with care planning and medical intervention when needed.
