Neurotrauma Program

At Phoenix Children’s Hospital, patients get the best in trauma care. We bring top talents from two of our Centers of Excellence: the Barrow Neurological Institute and the Pediatric Trauma Center, which is the only verified Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center in all of Arizona.

The Neurotrauma Program Team

Our emergency room nurses and physicians specialize in spine and brain injuries in children. The equipment is designed for children — not for adults — so patients have everything they need at the ready. And since Phoenix Children’s relies on cutting-edge research, patients get the most up-to-date treatments.

Treating a neurotrauma patient involves a broad field of specialists throughout the patient’s stay with us. Here are some of the experts who will help you through the process, from the moment you step through our doors to the day you leave:

  • Pediatric Trauma Center staff
  • Neurosurgeons
  • Dedicated ICU nurses
  • Diagnosis and monitoring specialists
  • Rehabilitation therapists
  • Family services staff

Child-centered rehabilitation
After the patient has been stabilized and assessed, it’s vital to begin the rehabilitation process as soon as possible. Why? A child’s brain can rapidly "rewire" itself and begin healing after a neurotrauma injury. Our team of pediatric rehabilitation specialists is the only one in the state focused solely on children.

Back to school
School is an important part of a child’s normal routine. This is why we offer a school re-entry program. We’ll help you plan the child’s return to the classroom, including accommodations at school, special education needs and coordination of homebound services.
