Your Child's Care Team

Planning Your Visit

We strive to offer the most comprehensive pediatric care services to our patients. With more than 75 pediatric specialties and subspecialties under our roof, we have the ability to care for patients who are going through a variety of treatments, routine to rare.

As with any growth, additional providers are needed to help facilitate our nationally recognized special brand of pediatric care. We employ advanced practice providers to see patients in many clinics.

Nurse Practitioners

Nurse Practitioners (NPs) are Advanced Practice Registered Nurses, or APRN for short. This means they have the education, training and health care experience that allows them to provide many of the same services as your child’s physician. Here are some of their primary job functions:

  • Performing patient examinations
  • Ordering lab tests and procedures
  • Diagnosing illnesses and diseases
  • Giving vaccinations
  • Prescribing medication
  • Performing procedures and minor surgeries
  • Providing patient education and counsel
  • Providing patient referrals

Physician Assistants

Physician Assistants (PAs) are also advanced care providers. Similar to NPs, they have the education and training that allows them to provide many of the same primary care services as physicians; however, they must provide care under the direct supervision of a physician.

NPs and PAs manage certain specialty clinics and see new patients. Many of our highest-rated providers for patient satisfaction are, in fact, advance practice providers. They are an important part of your child’s care team. Together, we are committed to: Better access to care, including shorter clinic wait times.

  • Improved communication between the team at Phoenix Children’s, your family and your primary care physician
  • A full team dedicated to your child and family

By forming this team-based model of care, Phoenix Children’s is able to further serve the growing needs of our community without sacrificing the high quality care for which we are known.
