Joe Woolley, DO, is a pediatric gastroenterologist with a special interest in cystic fibrosis.

The decision to join the Phoenix Children's team was an easy one for Dr. Woolley. He wanted to be a part of the rapidly expanding gastrointestinal (GI) division that continually provides top-quality care. He also shares Phoenix Children's commitment to developing the next generation of medical providers through innovative educational programming.

Dr. Woolley earned his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine in New York. In the four years that followed, he completed a pediatric residency at the University of Minnesota -- serving as chief resident in the final year. He then went on to complete a pediatric gastroenterology, hepatology and nutrition fellowship at the University of Texas-Southwestern.

Dr. Woolley is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics, a training committee member of the North American Society for Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology & Nutrition, and a pediatric GI committee member of the American College of Gastroenterology.

The privilege of partnering with patients and families to navigate challenging times is what inspired Dr. Woolley to become a physician. He maintains accessible and collaborative relationships with patients and families that empower them to take ownership of their own care.

Another passion of Dr. Woolley's is contributing to the education of medical students and new doctors. He works to equip medical learners with tools that improve the quality of patient communication, ensure thoughtful clinical reasoning, and motivate them to be the best providers they can be.

In his free time, Dr. Woolley has numerous hobbies and interests. He describes himself as a: film enthusiast, amateur mixologist, unbounded music addict, optimistic Minnesota sports fan, garage guitarist, self-proclaimed artist, budgeted world-explorer, dog devotee and hobby collector.
