Pediatric Nephrology Fellowship

Fellows in the Pediatric Nephrology Fellowship Training Program acquire practical clinical experience through inpatient and outpatient rotations. Clinical training is slightly more intensive in the first year but remains well-balanced with research activities during the second and third years, ensuring that fellows maintain ample time for clinical care, scholarly pursuits, and teaching throughout the program.

Over three years, fellows complete a total of 9 months in inpatient rotations, providing care for patients on the nephrology service, offering inpatient nephrology consultations, and performing renal procedures. Fellows collaborate with clinicians across various specialties to deliver comprehensive patient care, working closely with supervising nephrology attendings.

Fellows also engage in multiple months of outpatient rotations, which include interpreting renal diagnostic studies. They participate in weekly outpatient continuity clinics, starting with half-day sessions in the first year and if felt competency level appropriate gradually progressing to full-day sessions by the third year. This structure facilitates continuity of care and fosters long-term relationships with patients and families managing chronic conditions.

Moreover, fellows can explore individual interests through elective educational opportunities. In the fellow’s 3rd year there are two 1-month elective blocks available for experiences in related fields, such as additional outpatient or inpatient interactions or to allocate more time toward clinical research endeavors.

Our fellows manage patients with a wide range of complexities and conditions, including but not limited to:

  • Acute and chronic kidney disease
  • Hypertension
  • Nephrotic syndrome
  • Glomerulonephritis
  • Kidney transplantation

Elective opportunities include additional research, critical care nephrology, and other related fields.
