Heart Surgery

Heart surgeons and other specialists at Phoenix Children’s Hospital cooperate to provide comprehensive programs and services. We specialize in pediatric heart surgery and care, including procedures ranging from outpatient evaluation and therapies to complex bypass and organ transplant procedures, critical care and rehabilitation.

Our congenital heart specialists also treat adult congenital heart disease diagnosed at any age. Heart surgery teams partner with other departments, specialists and programs to serve children and families. We offer these and other services:

Imaging and Evaluation  

  • Cardiac imaging, including echocardiography, tissue Doppler, nuclear, MRI and CT scans  
  • Outpatient evaluation, diagnostic testing and minimally invasive procedures
  • Consultations and second opinions

Interventional Cardiology

Heart Surgery

  • Open surgery for heart and related conditions
  • Hybrid procedures, using a combination of heart catheterization and heart surgery
  • Ventricular assist device (VAD) procedures, such as mechanical “heart pump” implantation and management
  • Minimally invasive surgeries – less invasive surgical approaches requiring tiny incisions as surgeons operate with sophisticated, camera-assisted technologies and techniques
  • Heart transplantation, including multispecialty evaluation, organ procurement and screening, counseling and support, and lifetime follow-up care
