Jared Muenzer will serve Phoenix Children's as Physician in Chief

Phoenix Children’s is pleased to announce Jared Muenzer, MD, MBA, has been promoted to serve the organization as Physician-in-Chief.

As Physician-in-Chief, Dr. Muenzer will lead the nationally ranked clinical enterprise at Phoenix Children’s alongside Surgeon-in-Chief, Daniel Ostlie, MD.

Dr. Muenzer is currently the Chief Operating Officer (COO) of the Phoenix Children’s Medical Group (“PCMG”), a role he has held since 2016.   As the COO, he is accountable for the overall operations of more than 500 Phoenix Children’s physicians and providers. During his tenure as the COO Dr. Muenzer has improved clinical processes and implemented growth strategies within PCMG.

As Physician-in-Chief, Dr. Muenzer’s responsibilities will encompass his current COO responsibilities, as well as provide leadership across a much broader arena, like strategic guidance, growth and recruitment for four of Phoenix Children’s eight clinical centers.  In his new role, Dr. Muenzer remains committed to development, communication and implementation of effective growth strategies and process improvement for the health system and all associated service lines.

“Phoenix Children’s has transformed from a small local hospital to becoming one of the nation’s premier destinations in pediatric care,” said Bob Meyer, President and CEO of Phoenix Children’s. “I have no doubt that Dr. Muenzer’s work in the organization has played a major role in our success, not just in Arizona, but across the pediatric care landscape.”

Before he assumed an executive leadership role in 2016, Dr. Muenzer completed a fellowship in Pediatric Emergency Medicine and worked in the division of Emergency Medicine at PCH. He has also served as Medical Director of Phoenix Children's Medical Group, Associate Director of the Emergency Department, Program Director of the Pediatric Emergency Medicine fellowship program and Vice President of the Medical Staff at PCH.

“I think one of the greatest testaments to who Dr. Muenzer is his commitment to his work,” said Daniel Ostlie, MD, Surgeon in Chief of Phoenix Children’s Hospital. “On top of his responsibilities overseeing operations, he continues to practice Pediatric Emergency Medicine, where he sees patients who seek care through our Emergency Department, and that’s just incredible. He stays close to the organization’s mission and never loses sight of what is most important—our patients. I have no doubt that he’ll surpass all expectations.”
