Fellows in the Pediatric Dermatology Fellowship Training Program will have exposure and experiences in practical clinical environments through inpatient and outpatient rotations and surgical settings. Clinical training remains well-balanced with academic activities, ensuring that fellows maintain ample time for clinical care, scholarly pursuits, and teaching throughout the program.

1. Exceptional Clinical Training: Fellows will gain hands-on experience treating a diverse range of pediatric dermatological conditions at Phoenix Children's, which is recognized as one of the top healthcare facilities in the nation. Under the guidance of our experienced faculty, fellows will manage complex cases, develop proficiency in various diagnostic and therapeutic techniques, and work alongside interdisciplinary teams to provide holistic, patient-centered care.
2. Innovative Research Opportunities: The program fosters a research forward environment where fellows are encouraged to participate in ongoing projects or initiate their own investigations. With access to state-of-the-art facilities and resources, fellows can explore cutting-edge topics such as genodermatoses, pediatric skin cancer, and laser therapy for vascular birthmarks, among others.
3. Comprehensive Educational Curriculum: The fellowship curriculum is designed to provide a strong foundation in pediatric dermatology, covering topics such as common and rare skin disorders, immunodermatology, and procedural dermatology. Fellows will also have access to a vast array of educational resources, including didactic sessions, and multidisciplinary conferences, to facilitate their growth and development as clinicians and researchers.
4. Mentorship and Career Development: Our program emphasizes the importance of personal and professional growth through individualized mentorship. Fellows are matched with faculty mentors who provide guidance on research projects, clinical decision-making, and career planning. Additionally, fellows will have the opportunity to attend national conferences and network with other pediatric dermatology professionals.

The structure of clinical assignments aims to ensure year-long continuity, enable thorough assessment and evaluation of the fellow, and deliver a high-quality educational experience. Throughout the 12-month period, weekly schedules maintain a consistent mix of outpatient clinics, surgical procedures, multidisciplinary clinics, inpatient consultations, and a designated fellow continuity clinic. This approach enables fellows to become familiar and confident with the diagnosis and treatment of patients under graduated supervision. It also fosters continuity in both patient care and interaction with the supervising attending, facilitating valuable clinical mentorship and feedback. This arrangement closely resembles the schedule of a practicing pediatric dermatologist, thereby preparing the fellow for future transition to clinical practice. The fellow's clinical call experience involves - managing the inpatient consultative service during weekdays and after-hour patient/parent call coverage.  During call periods, the fellow serves as the primary contact for patient/family inquiries and for inpatient and emergency room consultations.  This facilitates further experience in the triage and management of post-operative complications/concerns, medication side-effects and urgent and emergent dermatologic diagnoses.
