Ways to Help
- Are you at least 16-years-old?
- Can you share the same two to four hours each week, on the same day, at a minimum of 100 hours per year?
First you will need to attend a Volunteer Information Session, either at the Hospital or online (webinar). At the Session you will receive more information about available opportunities and learn about the steps we ask you to complete. Most complete the steps in three to four weeks.
After attending a Volunteer Information Session you will receive a confirmation email with instructions how to complete the online pre-orientation. The pre-orientation consists of videos and links which contain important information about volunteering inside the Hospital.
Once you complete your online pre-orientation, we will determine if there is a current opportunity that matches your profile and preferences. If there is a current match, we will contact you to arrange an interview. At the interview we'll talk more about hospital needs and a potential match. You'll need to complete an immunization review and we do a background check, which are all part of the Hospital's safety policy. (All Hospital employees complete these as well.) You will receive more information about these at the Volunteer Information Session and interview.
There may be additional training required for your specific volunteer position. For example, if you will be working with patients at their bedside, completing our patient care training course may be required. You will also attend a guided hospital tour to become familiar with the layout of the Hospital.
Welcome to the Team
That's it! Many people complete the steps above in about three to four weeks. Having your immunization records available is a big help to shortening the process, and so is being flexible with the times you are available and the types of volunteer roles you are willing to do. We look forward to you joining our in-hospital volunteer team!
