Why Us?

Transplant Department

Families come from around the country for our transplant expertise. When your child is in need of a life-saving transplant, our team is dedicated to providing the medical and emotional care you need.

All of our transplant programs utilize the most current medical and surgical therapies, and several of them are the only ones of their kind specializing in pediatric transplants. We bring an all-hands-on-deck approach to every case, making sure each patient gets the best team of specialists in their corner.

Top ranked

In 2013, the Ottosen Family Blood and Marrow Transplant Program was ranked 2nd in the country by the Center for International Blood and Marrow Transplant Research (CIBMTR) in one-year survival for patients undergoing their first allogeneic stem cell transplant.

Virtual transplant and device implementation

We worked with engineers from Arizona State University to develop techniques to generate 3D printed models of complex congenital hearts. This greatly helps with surgical planning, but it also helps families understand a patient’s heart condition. We used these techniques to model the fit for mechanical support devices to determine whether — and how — a given device would fit into a patient. In addition, this technique helps us decide whether a particular donor heart is a good fit for a patient on our heart transplant waiting list.
