When your child’s doctor needs a closer look, radiology – sometimes called diagnostic imaging – is here to help. Our expert pediatric radiologists, technologists, nurses and others are specially trained to provide pediatric radiology services from the womb to adolescence.
Radiology & Imaging
If your child requires imaging services, you can count on Phoenix Children’s to provide safe, high-quality images – and world class care. We will collaborate with your child’s primary care physician or specialty provider to properly diagnose and treat your child.
What Is Pediatric Radiology?
Pediatric radiology uses a variety of technologies to capture high-resolution images of a child’s internal organs, tissues and bones. Some of these technologies use radiation to make images, and others, like ultrasound and MRI, do not.
Pediatric radiologists are doctors who have extensive training in the anatomy and diseases of children. They use their expert knowledge to interpret children’s medical images and recommend tests that will help in diagnosis and treatment.
Pediatric radiologists can find abnormalities in babies before they are born. These doctors are also often the best specialists to interpret medical images of adults who have conditions they were born with or developed as children.
Imaging can also be used to guide specific procedures, and Phoenix Children’s Interventional Radiology is the only pediatric program of its kind in the Southwest.
Why Choose Phoenix Children's
Every pediatric radiologist at Phoenix Children’s is board certified by the American Board of Radiology. With specialists who have additional certifications and expertise in cardiovascular imaging, musculoskeletal imaging, fetal imaging, PET and nuclear medicine, interventional radiology and/or neuroradiology, our providers are dedicated to providing the high-quality care our patients and families have come to expect.
We’re here to answer all your questions and make sure you and your child are comfortable throughout the imaging process. The nurses and technologists who perform these tests are skilled pediatric care experts who will monitor your child throughout this imaging process. They are dedicated to making your child as safe and comfortable as possible.
If your child will require sedation or anesthesia during their visit, our specially trained pediatric anesthesiologists will handle their care. They have a special role in pediatric imaging, since some children have trouble staying still during their testing. Our anesthesiologists are equipped with an expert understanding of your child’s medical needs and are skilled at calming fears and inspiring confidence in both young patients and their families.
