Injured athletes who are still growing need specialized care to help them reach their athletic goals, now and in the future. The fellowship-trained physicians in Phoenix Children’s Sports Medicine Program have years of experience caring for high-performing young athletes.

Because the bones, joints and muscles of young athletes are still developing, treatment requires a unique skillset. Repairing an ACL tear or meniscus tear in a young athlete, for example, must account for ongoing growth. At Phoenix Children’s, we approach every surgery, treatment and sports physical therapy session with a personalized, age-appropriate approach. Our goal is to help your athlete return to the sport they love quickly and safely, while also understanding the importance of how their treatment today will affect their athletic performance for years to come.

Sports Medicine

You have a choice when it comes to sports injury prevention and treatment. At Phoenix Children’s, we bring an added layer of expertise: deep knowledge of how a growing body moves, functions and changes with time.

Why choose us?

  • Unmatched pediatric sports medicine experience: Our team has been caring for some of the Valley’s most impressive youth athletes for years. The narrowed age range we treat (children, teens and collegiate athletes) gives us a distinct advantage. We know the special considerations that need to be made to keep your athlete performing well throughout their lives.
  • Many of our providers are lifelong athletes: Our sports medicine specialists are equipped with a unique understanding of physical competition starting at a young age.
  • Sports physical therapy designed for youth athletes: Our associated Sports Physical Therapy is designed to help young athletes, from grade school through young adulthood, safely restore strength and stability. We have the only sports medicine physical therapy facilities in the Valley dedicated exclusively to serving growing athletes of all skill levels.
  • Support for an athlete’s drive and goals: Our team knows how difficult it can be, physically, mentally and emotionally, for your athlete to pause doing something they love. Their goal is to get back into the game. Our goal is to help your athlete heal as quickly – and safely – as possible. Our treatment plans include education and training that is appropriate for your athlete’s age, skill level and vision. At every visit we talk about when your athlete can return to play.
  • Athletic trainers are by your athlete’s side: The Phoenix Children’s comprehensive Athletic Training Program offers everything from on-site coverage and training room management to bracing, taping, conditioning and rehabilitation. Like you, we are on the sidelines, offering your athlete unconditional support.
  • Sports performance assessments use advanced technology: The Bubba Watson and PING Golf Motion Analysis Lab allows our sports medicine team, which includes sports physical therapists and engineers, to study how your athlete moves and how their muscles perform. With this information we can pinpoint the exact areas we need to focus on for continued improvement.
  • We provide state-of-the-art imaging: We can take care of all your athlete’s imaging needs, whether it’s an X-ray, CT scan or MRI, onsite.
  • Expert concussion care: Our Concussion Clinic includes experts from our Sports Medicine team and the Barrow Neurological Institute at Phoenix Children’s to ensure your athlete receives a quick and correct diagnosis with a personalized recovery plan and education on concussion management to protect their growing brain.
