The Newborn Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Phoenix Children's Hospital is a Level III nursery, which is the highest certification given by the Arizona Perinatal Trust.9DBW7945_J.JPG

Each year, approximately 1,300 babies throughout Arizona and the Southwest are admitted to this newborn intensive care nursery.

The team of Phoenix Perinatal Associates, Neonatology Associates Ltd., and the nursing staffs at Banner Good Samaritan and Phoenix Children's has cared for about 74 sets of quadruplets, seven sets of quintuplets, and two sets of sextuplets.

Phoenix Children's NICU has a staff of more than 250 healthcare professionals all specialized in the unique care of critically ill and premature infants.

Phoenix Children's is a regional referral center for ECMO, a heart-lung bypass procedure using special equipment that does the work of the infant's heart and/or lungs while their own heart/lungs rest, recover and develop.

NICU patients have easy access to consults from Phoenix Children's large staff of pediatric specialists and sub-specialists.

Phoenix Children's NICU has 33 beds on the Hospital's primary campus which supports infants born throughout Arizona needing a higher level of neonatal care, surgery, or sub-specialist involvement.
